How I Stopped Handing My Phone to Valets Like a Complete Maniac.

If you don’t own a Tesla, this post is probably incredibly boring to you and you may continue on with your life.

But for Tesla owners?

This little thing might save you from embarrassment, inconvenience, and accidentally giving strangers access to your entire digital existence.

Here’s the problem:

I never carry my Tesla key card.

Why would I?
The phone key works so seamlessly that after a while you completely forget the physical key even exists.

Until valet parking enters the chat.

I work in the city, so I valet my car fairly often, and TWICE now I’ve realized — too late — that I had no key card on me.

Which leads to the deeply humiliating conversation where you explain to the valet:

“So technically my car key is… my phone.”

One time — and I swear this is true — I actually handed the valet my phone for the day so he could move my car.

Insane behavior.

I spent the entire day wondering:

  • Did he read my texts?
  • Did he judge my Amazon orders?
  • Did he send emotional messages to my ex pretending to be me?

We may never know.

Anyway, after losing another key card, I discovered something beautiful:

You can literally buy replacement Tesla key cards on Amazon, pair them yourself in about 30 seconds, and move on with your life.

No dealership.
No service appointment.
No weird proprietary nonsense.

You just:

  1. Go into your Tesla settings
  2. Open Locks/Security
  3. Tap “Add Key”
  4. Place the card on the center console area

Done.

What a world we live in.

I grabbed this bifold wallet + Tesla key card combo and now I permanently keep one on me like a responsible adult.

Or at least a slightly less irresponsible one.
